This is week five of our "Formed" series. In today's conversation, my new friend Strahan Coleman is here to talk about the cost of formation, how to negotiate with sorrow and silence, and why you can't perform your way to God's heart. Strahan is a writer, musician, and spiritual director from New Zealand. His work helps people to grow a deep friendship with God, seeing prayer as far more than conscious mental dialogue but as a way of existing with God in our everyday ordinary lives. His prayers and poems are invitations toward an honest, rested and open life lived in the Spirit and his dialogue around how we can incorporate ancient prayer forms into our modern lives has helped give language to a generation longing for a deeper living experience of God.

Welcome to week four of our [Formed.] series. In today's conversation, my good friend Anthony Skinner is here to talk about what it means to be formed in our heart, our soul, our mind, and our strength. We'll also talk about how to develop a hearing ear; how to hear and then respond quickly to the Lord's direction in our lives, and also what it takes to heal the orphan heart. Anthony Skinner is a Spiritual Director, music and podcast producer, award-winning songwriter, recording artist, worship leader, and cohost of the popular Typology Podcast with Ian Cron. Additionally, he is a principal and co-creator of the devotional and meditation app “Shamah Way.”

In today's conversation, Ruth Haley Barton is here to talk about silence and solitude, ordering your true desires, why the sabbath isn't simply a "day off," and why there are no emergencies with God. Ruth Haley Barton is the founder of the Transforming Center, a ministry dedicated to strengthening the souls of pastors, Christian leaders, and the congregations and organizations they serve. A sought-after teacher, retreat leader, and trained spiritual director, Ruth is the author of numerous books and articles on spiritual life.

I hope you've enjoyed the spiritual formation series thus far. If you've missed an episode, go back and listen to episode 326 with Richard Foster and episode 327 with Jamie Winship. We've spent time talking about why we need to slow down, why humility is the preeminent virtue in life, why transformation requires surrender, and so much more. And as I said last week, if you want a visual recap of the series, follow me on Instagram @00ChrisCook. Every week, I post a visual carousel of key thoughts and quotes from each guest.
