One of my favorite conversations to have here on the show revolves around the topic of legacy. As I often say, your legacy is not established by what you have. Your legacy is established by who you have in your life. Simply stated, you were meant to leave your mark, big or small, upon this world. The size of your mark does not matter as much as the intention and focus with which you leave your mark. The fact is that not everyone will have access to personally reach millions of people. Some will have access to 100, some 10. The point is, make a dent with your life. Live intensely without regret and kick fear in the face. Don’t live passively, quiet, and understated, because whether you’re aware of this fact or not, you are unknowingly inspiring (or uninspiring) other people every single day. And in the words of my guests today, the family behind Hobby Lobby, Jackie Green, and Lauren Green McAfee, authors of the new book, Only One Life: How a Woman's Every Day Shapes an Eternal Legacy, "Your choices today shape the legacy you leave for future generations. You are part of a story that has existed long before you and will long outlast you. And you can play a unique and irreplaceable role." Buy "Only One Life" Now Life keeps us running so fast and frenzied that we often lose sight of each day’s holy potential. Yet as a woman loved and called by God, your ordinary everyday matters more than you could possibly imagine. Your choices today shape the legacy you leave for future generations. You are part of a story that has existed long before you and will long outlast you. And you can play a unique and irreplaceable role. In Only One Life: How a Woman's Every Day Shapes an Eternal Legacy, mother-and-daughter team Jackie Green and Lauren McAfee invite you to join the company of women God is using to change the world. Through vivid portraits of women of the Bible, women of history, and women shaping the world today, you will discover how God multiplies seemingly small daily offerings of faithfulness. Building a legacy through your “only one life” is not a calling for the elite few. It is a calling for you—as a woman with unique capacity to shape the future through your faith, family, gifts, and leadership. Only One Life: How a Woman's Every Day Shapes an Eternal Legacy will encourage and empower you to develop grit, grace, and the long view—able to change your world forever—starting today. It is professionally produced, yet still has an informal feel like I’m hanging out with Chris… And frankly, I’d love to hang out with him! I really appreciate his heart and have been able to apply many of his topics in my life to help me grow professionally, physically, and relationally. A+!"

It is not uncommon that painful past experiences in life cause us to wear tattered clothing of shame, perfectionism, self-protection, and self-promotion. I know this too well because I did it all too often. We "orphan" ourselves when we have an unwillingness to live inside our story (even the most painful parts). We then abandon who we were/who we are (and what happened) in favor of who we're supposed to be. We live inside windowless shacks built upon the phrase, "I will not be ___________ again." The bricks of that shack are past hurt, abandonment, abuse, lies, being taken advantage of, fear, and resentment about being forced to experience a sizable amount of pain so early in life. But worthiness and acceptance of ourselves at the core "adopt" the orphan and, through a lot of time and diligence, make whole what was broken.

Millions of people around the world unknowingly suffer from an insidious disease known as “destination disease.” The most common symptom is the belief that when they achieve a goal, meet the right person, pay off their mortgage, graduate from school, make a certain amount of money, etc., they will be happy. But succumbing to destination disease, which disguises itself as the ever tantalizing “bigger, better, and faster” trap, is a tragic way to live. Why? Because bigger, better, and faster are constantly moving (and often insatiable) targets. Listen to this week's bonus episode for more...

Not all managers are leaders, and to be a great leader, you don’t necessarily have to be in management. It’s my conviction that true leadership is defined by the ability to influence, train, and add value to others through strategically communicating vision and by creating an environment and growth track in which team members flourish. I believe that people are an organization’s greatest asset, and as such, must be empowered and positioned to best serve the organization’s goals. Which leader are you? On the flip-side of any healthy relationship is dealing with emotionally draining people; those who suck the ever-loving life out of you. And that’s flat-out exhausting, isn’t it? In one moment, everything is fine, but in the next moment, you’re not sure why your “winter wonderland” is cracking below your feet. Perhaps you know the type: Those who are dramatic; people who create chaos out of small inconveniences. Those who are unrelenting complainers. Those who are consistently negative. Those who are aggressively opinionated and self-centered. Those who are overly critical of everything and everyone. But before you cast your ballot, here’s the challenge: it’s much easier to spot those qualities in others than to take regular time for self-assessment to determine whether or not you actually…suck.
